Your kitchen cabinets take up more visual space than almost anything else in the room. When they look tired, faded, or outdated, the entire kitchen does too. Painters Hamilton removes your cabinet doors, sprays them off-site in a controlled, dust-free environment, and returns them with a factory-smooth finish – no brush marks, no mess in your kitchen. A complete transformation in 5–7 days, for a fraction of what full replacement would cost.

Your Cabinets Have Good Bones They Just Need a New Finish

In Hamilton and across the Halton region, we see it constantly: homeowners with solid, structurally sound cabinets with good layout, good storage, perfectly functional who feel stuck because the finish is peeling, the oak has yellowed, or the style just hasn’t aged well. Renovation contractors quote them $10,000 to $40,000 for replacement and weeks of kitchen downtime.

Most of those kitchens don’t need new cabinets. They need new finishes.

Done properly with the right surface preparation, the right primer, and professional spray application off-site refinished cabinets are indistinguishable from factory-new. The result is harder, smoother, and more durable than anything a brush-and-roller job done on-site could ever deliver. Painters Hamilton has refined this process over 12 years of work across Hamilton, Ancaster, Dundas, Stoney Creek, and the wider Halton region

Our Cabinet Services Include

The kitchen is the heart of the home, where flavors and memories come together. When it starts to lose its charm, our cabinets refinishing service can help restore its beauty.

We offer a full range of services to transform your kitchen:

Kitchen Cabinet Painting

A full colour transformation using a solid, opaque, cabinet-grade finish applied over properly cleaned, sanded, and primed surfaces. Works on wood, MDF, laminate, and melamine cabinets. Unlimited colour options from warm whites and soft greys to bold navy, sage, or charcoal. Typical cost: Average cost of kitchen cabinet painting in Hamilton is $1,500–$5,000 for a standard kitchen.

Kitchen Cabinet Refinishing

For homeowners who love the warmth of real wood and want to restore it rather than cover it. We strip or sand the existing finish back to bare wood, correct surface damage, and apply a new stain and protective clear coat that brings the natural grain back to life. Only suitable for solid wood cabinets.

Why Hamilton Homeowners Choose Refinishing Over Replacement?

Cabinet replacement is one of the most expensive and disruptive kitchen renovations a homeowner can undertake. In Hamilton and the Halton region, a full cabinet replacement currently costs between $15,000 and $40,000 once you factor in materials, installation, countertop relocation, and the plumbing and electrical surprises that come with any major kitchen demo.

In most cases, the cabinet boxes themselves are perfectly sound. It’s the finish, the colour, the sheen, the feel that’s the problem. And that’s entirely fixable at a fraction of the cost.

Save $10,000–$30,000

Professional refinishing delivers results that are visually identical to new cabinetry for $1,500–$5,000 on a typical Hamilton kitchen. That’s a real saving of $10,000 to $30,000 for most homeowners.

Back in Your Kitchen in 5–7 Days

Cabinet replacement means 4–8 weeks of a demolished kitchen, daily contractor access, and eating out every night. Our refinishing process is planned and predictable — 5 to 7 working days for a standard kitchen, with the sink and fridge remaining accessible throughout. We provide a day-by-day schedule so you can plan meals and family routines.

Keeps a Layout That Works

If your current kitchen has a well-planned layout, a good work triangle, the right amount of storage, counters at the right height refinishing preserves all of that while updating the look entirely. Replacement forces a redesign.

Environmentally Responsible

Removing functional cabinets sends hundreds of kilograms of wood, MDF, and laminate to landfill. Refinishing keeps your existing cabinets in service for another decade or more a meaningful choice for Hamilton homeowners who care about reducing waste.

Endless Colour and Finish Options

Soft white, warm grey, sage green, navy, charcoal, espresso any colour from Benjamin Moore, Sherwin-Williams, or Dulux is achievable. We include a free colour consultation with every cabinet project and bring physical samples so you can see how colours look in your actual kitchen light before we commit.

Cabinet refinishing is the smart choice for Hamilton homeowners who want a stunning, durable result without the cost, disruption, and waste of replacement. Painters Hamilton delivers that result, backed by 20 years of experience and a 3-year written warranty.

How We Deliver a Factory-Quality Finish?

Step 1: On-Site Consultation & Colour Selection

Alex or a senior team member visits your kitchen, assesses your cabinet material (solid wood, MDF, thermofoil, laminate, or previously painted), checks adhesion, and discusses your goals. We bring colour samples and help you select a tone that works with your countertops, backsplash, flooring, and the natural light in your Hamilton home.

Important: we don’t refinish cabinets with damaged thermofoil peeling from its substrate, or wax coatings that would prevent proper adhesion. If we see an issue, we tell you upfront before we’ve started work, not after.

Step 2: Detailed Written Quote & Schedule

You receive a fixed, itemized quote covering labour, materials, and timeline within 24 to 48 hours of the site visit. We schedule the project around your household. You’ll know which days the kitchen will be affected and exactly what will be happening each day.

Step 3: Door & Drawer Removal — Everything Labelled

Every door, drawer front, and removable component is carefully removed and labelled for exact reassembly. Hardware is removed and bagged. Countertops, floors, and appliances are fully protected before any prep work begins. Fixed face frames are prepped and painted on-site using the same product, carefully masked to protect adjacent surfaces.

Step 4: Off-Site Spray Application

This is what separates professional results from a DIY or budget paint job. Doors and drawer fronts go to our controlled, dust-free spray environment where they are cleaned, deglossed, sanded, and primed. Stain-blocking primer is applied for any dark-to-light or light-to-dark colour changes. Finish coats are applied by spray in multiple passes, building a smooth, hard film that cures to a consistent sheen across every surface. No brush marks. No dust contamination. No mess in your kitchen.

Step 5: Reinstallation, Hardware & Walkthrough

Finished doors are returned and reinstalled with precision. Hinges are adjusted for even reveals. If you’ve chosen new hardware, we drill and fit it  checking alignment and spacing before final tightening. We walk through the completed kitchen with you, complete any touch-ups needed, clean up completely, and issue your written 3-year warranty documentation.

The Benefits of Hiring Professional Painters for Your Kitchen Cabinets

The Products We Use on Your Cabinets — and Why It Matters

Standard wall paint is not built for kitchen cabinets. It doesn’t cure hard enough for surfaces that are touched dozens of times a day, exposed to grease and steam, and wiped down regularly. Cabinet jobs done with the wrong product start chipping and yellowing within one to two years, regardless of how carefully they were applied. Product selection matters as much as the process.

At Painters Hamilton, we use cabinet-specific, professional-grade coatings:

Benjamin Moore Advance Waterborne Interior Alkyd

Widely considered the gold standard for cabinet painting among professional painters. It behaves like an oil-based paint in terms of levelling and hardness, but cleans up like a water-based product. It self-levels beautifully, leaves virtually no brush marks, and cures to a hard, furniture-grade finish that handles daily kitchen contact, moisture, and repeated cleaning without chipping or yellowing.

Sherwin-Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel

A hybrid acrylic-urethane enamel that cures to one of the hardest waterborne finishes available. Resists scratches, holds up to repeated cleaning, and does not yellow over time. Our most recommended product for homeowners who want maximum durability and a crisp, clean finish.

Both are cabinet-grade products engineered specifically for high-traffic surfaces — not repurposed wall paints. We choose between them based on your cabinet material, preferred finish level, and what will perform best long-term in your specific kitchen. We walk you through the recommendation during your free estimate so you know exactly what is going on your cabinets before we start.

Quality Results, Every Time

Professional spray application eliminates the brush marks and uneven sheen that DIY or brush-and-roller cabinet jobs always produce. The result looks and feels factory-made.
Time-Efficient, Minimally Disruptive

Our crew works to a day-by-day schedule. Most Hamilton kitchens are fully complete in 5–7 days, with the sink and refrigerator accessible throughout.

Long-Lasting Finish

With the right product, proper prep, and professional application, a cabinet paint job lasts 8–15 years under normal household use. We back ours with a 3-year written warranty, the longest standard warranty offered by kitchen cabinet painters in the Hamilton area.

Complete Cleanup

We protect your kitchen throughout the project and clean up completely at the end of every day. When we leave on the final day, your kitchen is ready to use.

Frequently Asked Questions – Cabinet Painting Hamilton

How much does kitchen cabinet painting cost in Hamilton?

A standard Hamilton kitchen typically 20–35 cabinet doors and drawer fronts runs between $1,500 and $3,500 for a full repaint or refinish. Larger kitchens, or those requiring significant prep work such as stripping old finishes or repairing damaged surfaces, may run $3,500–$5,500. We provide a fixed, written quote after the on-site consultation so you know the exact cost before we start.

How long does the project take?

Most Hamilton kitchen cabinet refinishing projects take 5–7 working days from start to final reinstallation. Day 1: door removal and on-site prep. Days 2–5: off-site spray work on doors and drawer fronts. Days 6–7: reinstallation, hardware, touch-ups, and walkthrough. The kitchen sink and fridge remain accessible throughout, it’s the doors and workspace that are temporarily out of use.

What’s the difference between cabinet painting and cabinet refinishing?

Cabinet painting applies a solid, opaque colour over properly prepared surfaces, it completely changes the colour and is suitable for wood, MDF, and laminate cabinets. Cabinet refinishing strips the existing finish back to bare wood and applies a new stain and clear coat, it restores the natural grain character and is only suitable for solid wood. If you want a colour change, you want painting. If you want to restore what’s already there, you want refinishing.

Will it look as good as new cabinets?

When done properly off-site spray application, the right primer, cabinet-specific coating the finish is indistinguishable from factory-sprayed cabinetry. The key word is “properly.” Brush-and-roller cabinet painting done on-site will always show texture and inconsistent sheen. Our off-site spray process eliminates that entirely. We encourage you to look at our portfolio and ask for references before committing.

How long will it last?

With the right product applied properly, a professionally done cabinet finish lasts 8–15 years under normal household use. We back our work with a 3-year written warranty covering peeling, blistering, or adhesion failure. We also leave care instructions which cleaners to avoid, how long before full cure, and what to do if you get a chip.

Can you paint laminate or MDF cabinets?

Yes. Laminate (melamine) cabinets can be painted successfully with adhesion-promoting primers formulated specifically for slick surfaces. MDF is an excellent substrate for paint. Thermofoil cabinets are more complex: if the thermofoil is fully adhered and in good condition, we can paint over it with the right primer. If it’s peeling or bubbling at the edges, painting over it won’t work, we assess this during the estimate and won’t take on work we don’t believe will hold.

Do I need to do anything before your crew arrives?

Please empty all cabinet contents and clear the countertops. We handle all door removal, hardware bagging, and surface protection. Having clear countertops and empty interiors speeds up the process and keeps your belongings safe.

Do you subcontract the work?

Never. Every person who enters your home is part of our permanent team, trained and managed directly by Alex Keller. Subcontracting is not something we do, at any stage of any project.
