How We Deliver a Factory-Quality Finish?
Step 1: On-Site Consultation & Colour Selection
Alex or a senior team member visits your kitchen, assesses your cabinet material (solid wood, MDF, thermofoil, laminate, or previously painted), checks adhesion, and discusses your goals. We bring colour samples and help you select a tone that works with your countertops, backsplash, flooring, and the natural light in your Hamilton home.
Important: we don’t refinish cabinets with damaged thermofoil peeling from its substrate, or wax coatings that would prevent proper adhesion. If we see an issue, we tell you upfront before we’ve started work, not after.
Step 2: Detailed Written Quote & Schedule
You receive a fixed, itemized quote covering labour, materials, and timeline within 24 to 48 hours of the site visit. We schedule the project around your household. You’ll know which days the kitchen will be affected and exactly what will be happening each day.
Step 3: Door & Drawer Removal — Everything Labelled
Every door, drawer front, and removable component is carefully removed and labelled for exact reassembly. Hardware is removed and bagged. Countertops, floors, and appliances are fully protected before any prep work begins. Fixed face frames are prepped and painted on-site using the same product, carefully masked to protect adjacent surfaces.
Step 4: Off-Site Spray Application
This is what separates professional results from a DIY or budget paint job. Doors and drawer fronts go to our controlled, dust-free spray environment where they are cleaned, deglossed, sanded, and primed. Stain-blocking primer is applied for any dark-to-light or light-to-dark colour changes. Finish coats are applied by spray in multiple passes, building a smooth, hard film that cures to a consistent sheen across every surface. No brush marks. No dust contamination. No mess in your kitchen.
Step 5: Reinstallation, Hardware & Walkthrough
Finished doors are returned and reinstalled with precision. Hinges are adjusted for even reveals. If you’ve chosen new hardware, we drill and fit it checking alignment and spacing before final tightening. We walk through the completed kitchen with you, complete any touch-ups needed, clean up completely, and issue your written 3-year warranty documentation.
The Benefits of Hiring Professional Painters for Your Kitchen Cabinets
The Products We Use on Your Cabinets — and Why It Matters
Standard wall paint is not built for kitchen cabinets. It doesn’t cure hard enough for surfaces that are touched dozens of times a day, exposed to grease and steam, and wiped down regularly. Cabinet jobs done with the wrong product start chipping and yellowing within one to two years, regardless of how carefully they were applied. Product selection matters as much as the process.
At Painters Hamilton, we use cabinet-specific, professional-grade coatings:
Benjamin Moore Advance Waterborne Interior Alkyd
Widely considered the gold standard for cabinet painting among professional painters. It behaves like an oil-based paint in terms of levelling and hardness, but cleans up like a water-based product. It self-levels beautifully, leaves virtually no brush marks, and cures to a hard, furniture-grade finish that handles daily kitchen contact, moisture, and repeated cleaning without chipping or yellowing.
Sherwin-Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel
A hybrid acrylic-urethane enamel that cures to one of the hardest waterborne finishes available. Resists scratches, holds up to repeated cleaning, and does not yellow over time. Our most recommended product for homeowners who want maximum durability and a crisp, clean finish.
Both are cabinet-grade products engineered specifically for high-traffic surfaces — not repurposed wall paints. We choose between them based on your cabinet material, preferred finish level, and what will perform best long-term in your specific kitchen. We walk you through the recommendation during your free estimate so you know exactly what is going on your cabinets before we start.
Quality Results, Every Time
Professional spray application eliminates the brush marks and uneven sheen that DIY or brush-and-roller cabinet jobs always produce. The result looks and feels factory-made.
Time-Efficient, Minimally Disruptive
Our crew works to a day-by-day schedule. Most Hamilton kitchens are fully complete in 5–7 days, with the sink and refrigerator accessible throughout.
Long-Lasting Finish
With the right product, proper prep, and professional application, a cabinet paint job lasts 8–15 years under normal household use. We back ours with a 3-year written warranty, the longest standard warranty offered by kitchen cabinet painters in the Hamilton area.
Complete Cleanup
We protect your kitchen throughout the project and clean up completely at the end of every day. When we leave on the final day, your kitchen is ready to use.
